The American Film Company, nicknamed the Flying A, created more than 1,000 silent movies from 1910 to 1921. This website contains historical resources, video clips, and a searchable database of the studio’s films and its personnel throughout the years.
The creation and development of this site is chiefly the work of Dana Driskel, emeritus Studio Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dana has been responsible for most of the research for the database and the website. Dr. George H. Michaels, former Executive Director of Instructional Development at the University of California, Santa Barbara, provided technical assistance.
The Santa Barbara Historical Museum now hosts this site. Chris Ervin, Head Archivist at the Gledhill Library, provides archival support. This site is maintained by dedicated volunteers at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.
