George E. Periolat

Actor
Confirmed Years:   1910-19
Biography:

Born on February 5th, 1874 in Chicago. George Periolat got his start in theatrical acting in his teenage years when “he secured a small position in a stock company. He developed into a juvenile lead before many years... making a careful study of stage technique, which has formed the basis for his interesting work in pictures” (The Montgomery Advertiser Jun. 1914, pg.7). Success in theater acting led Periolat to transition into motion pictures. “Periolat first joined the Essanay Company. Then the Selig Company persuaded him to join their ranks for eight months under the direction of Frank Beale. Then came an offer from the American company which Perlolat could not refuse” (The Montgomery Advertiser, 7). He worked with American from 1910 to 1914 until he joined Jack Kerrigan at Universal. His absence at American would end when they offered him to star in the role of Luke Lovell on Diamond from the Sky (1915). Hutchinson described him as “being the best make-up artist in the country. Also, I have never seen his rival in facial expression. He can mold his face as a sculptor would clay.” (Reel Life April 1915, 23). His success on the serial was noticeable as papers reported on his performances saying “The grave fault with so many of the villains of the screen. They overdo their roles. Not so with Periolat, however. He gives careful study to the characterization.” (Ogden Standard, Jul 1915). Periolat continued to work on American films until 1920.
