Louise Hartman was born in Wisconsin in 1867. She married Frank Beal but used the stage name of Louise Lester. Louise Lester’s versatile portrayal of Calamity Anne was a key factor in the eventual series' success. Originally not the main character, Lester’s acting stole the show in the initial offering, Calamity Anne’s Ward, creating the opportunity for dynamic character expansion. Lester’s involvement in the series extended beyond acting as she contributed creatively through co-writing many of the films. After separating from Frank Beal, Louise married fellow actor Jack Richardson in 1914.
