Story Summary:
Harry, an adopted son, who had just announced his engagement to Edith, finds that his brother, Jack, the only son of Harry's foster parents, has forged a check, and to save the mother the knowledge that her only son was a forger, takes the blame. Edith turns away from him and his foster father orders him from the house. Later, Harry has wandered down to the sea and has lost his identity among the Italian fisher folk. Marie, one of the fisher girls, is engaged to Antonio, who has won her father ever by gifts of various kinds. Marie talks to Harry, which makes Antonio angry. Antonio tells the father and the father tries to induce Marie to marry Antonio immediately, but she refuses, and throwing down the string of beads which Antonio had given her as a peace offering, she runs down to the beach and tells Harry. Antonio sneaks behind and tries to stab Harry with a knife, but they struggle and Harry overcomes him. Marie suggests as a way of the difficulty, that Harry marry her. Harry, believing himself an exile forever, consents and they are married. - Moving Picture World, February 1914
