Story Summary: A poor little shop girl who wished and wished that some kind lady would adopt her, until, lo and behold- one day she was adopted. The kind lady, however, had done this only so that she might spite her own daughter-in-law, who was waiting around for her to die, in order to make use of her fortune. (Wid's May 24, 1917 page 326) |
