Story Summary:
Because his society fiancée, Emily Thurston, tires of his neglect and marries stockbroker Benson Heath, ambitious physician Edmund B. Stewart moves to the country and becomes a hobo. Six months later, when Emily's father dies leaving her no money, Heath moves West to avoid bad debts. He and Emily settle in an isolated house, which is ransacked one night by two of Stewart's hobo friends. When Heath comes home, he drunkenly strangles Emily, but one of the hobos, who had been hiding in a closet, intervenes and kills Heath. When Stewart hears about the death, he rushes to the house and confesses to the crime himself, thinking that the unconscious Emily is the murderer. Emily revives and tells the sheriff the truth, thus freeing Stewart and the hobos. She then confesses her love for Stewart. - Moving Picture World, May 13, 1916, p. 1186.; MPW 1 Jul 16, p. 143.
