Story Summary: Emily Alden reluctantly agrees to give up her career on the stage when she marries Neal Frazer. Then, Neal's sister Wanda comes to live with her brother and Emily after her husband, Arnold Howard, beset by debts, commits suicide. Trying to repay those debts, Neal breaks down from overwork, and so Emily decides to earn a living as an actress once again. Then, looking for a quick loan, Wanda approaches Douglas Stevens, with whom she had an affair during her marriage. Meanwhile, Neal, still weak, can put together only a distorted version of the whole story, and so believes that Emily is taking money from Douglas. As a result, Neal leaves her, but when he finally learns the truth, he and Emily are reconciled. -AFI |
