Story Summary:
Objecting to Jack Bedford's attentions to his daughter Lucy, Mr. Jones drives the would-be son-in-law from his estate, in the presence of young Dr. Glow, Jack's friend, and prepares a will disinheriting Lucy if she ever marries him. Dr. Glow offers a plan to break the father's power of resistance by the use of mental suggestion. To do this a conspiracy is formed involving Lucy, her mother, and the father's work-day associates, even the janitor. Next morning, Lucy's reference to her father's sickly appearance spoils the old breakfast. On his way to the office, other conspirators are concerned about his "looking badly," but when his office help and the janitor advise seeing a doctor, he becomes convinced that his case is deplorable. Fortunately, he picks out Dr. Glow who diagnoses his melady as "slopecia," an incurable disease, and orders him to bed at once. Still Jack's condolences are rejected, whereupon he is delivered letters from undertakers and florists soliciting business. These letters have the desired effect and when the doctor confides that Jack has a secret cure for the malady, he is sent for, the will is changed in Lucy's favor and a father's consent for marriage is received. After the marriage and when Jack and Lucy are on their honeymoon the father discovers that "slopecia" the supposed incurable disease in nothing more than "dandruff." Unable to control his anger at being "stung" he vows on the head of the conspirators and we leave him waiting at the doctor's office, gun in hand. - Moving Picture World, March 13, 1915
